چکیده

The effectiveness of mosquito traps containing CO2-producing agent as the attractant is depending on many factors, among others type material used. This research was conducted to find out whether materials that have been proven effective in trapping mosquitoes various species such sugar + yeast and citric acid baking soda are also effectively used catch vector dengue hemorrhagic fever, Aedes aegypti.A total 48 trapsmade from empty 1.6 liter plastic bottleswere prepared this study. yeast+ (YES) (CABS) attractants were applied be compared with control (well water). three different liquid (16 each) set 16 selected houses a settlement named Pinang Jaya. Traps for 14 days observed every two days. Parameters pH number female Ae. aegyti caught. results revealed made reacted most attracting Ae.aegypti composed brown fermented cassava yeast. Citric did not immediately attract until day-6 continues increase up 5 times day-14.It suggested feasible controlling population mosquitoes.

Efficacy and Sublethal Effects of Mosquito Mats on Aedes Aegypti and Culex Quinquefasciatus (diptera: Culicidae)

Mosquito mats with active ingredient d-allethrin (36 mg/mat) and prallethrin (15 mg/mat) were tested in the laboratory against Aedes aegypti (L.) and Culex quinquefasciatus (Say) using test method of the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia. Results indicated that KT50 values for d-allethrin against Ae. aegypti and Cx. quinquefasciatus were 1.38 min and 8.36 min, respectively....

Laboratory evaluation of mosquito traps baited with a synthetic human odor blend to capture Aedes aegypti.

A synthetic blend of chemicals comprising volatiles released by the human body has been shown to be an effective attractant for female Aedes aegypti in olfactometer bioassays with laboratory-reared mosquitoes. We report the laboratory evaluation of Ae. aegypti response to a synthetic blend tested with 4 types of mosquito traps (CDC model 512, CDC model 1012, CFG, and Fay-Prince traps). Aedes ae...

The Efficacy of Some Commercially Available Insect Repellents for Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) and Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae)

Reducing the number of host-vector interactions is an effective way to reduce the spread of vector-borne diseases. Repellents are widely used to protect humans from a variety of protozoans, viruses, and nematodes. DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide), a safe and effective repellent, was developed during World War II. Fear of possible side effects of DEET has created a large market for "natural" DE...

Reinvestigation of an endogenous meiotic drive system in the mosquito, Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae).

We have initiated efforts to determine the molecular basis for the M(D) meiotic drive system in the mosquito, Aedes aegypti. The effect of the M(D) gene is a highly male-biased sex ratio, but varies depending on the frequency and sensitivity of a susceptible responder m(s) allele. The M(D) system has potential as a mechanism for driving trangenes for pathogen resistance into natural Ae. aegypti...

Chikungunya virus susceptibility & variation in populations of Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) mosquito from India.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Although having immense clinical relevance, yet only a few studies have been targeted to understand the chikungunya virus (CHIKV) susceptibility and growth in Aedes aegypti populations from India. This study was undertaken to investigate CHIKV susceptibility and growth kinetics in Ae. aegypti along with genetic heterogeneity of Ae. aegypti populations. METHODS Dose dep...
